Company Overview

Minnesota Alternatives provides substance abuse treatment that focuses on engagement, skill development, holistic and personalized interventions. The program strives to ensure people have choices regarding the models of treatment available and that people become an active voice in the delivery of their care.

Minnesota Alternatives is building a local grass root coalition for people who are interested in harm/risk reduction interventions. This coalition provides peer support, training and consultation, and is working to bring a paradigm shift to the field of substance abuse treatment.

The program understands everyone is an individual with unique needs and strives to address the unique needs of each person, vs. one size fits all. The program understands people may be at different levels or readiness for change and provides stage specific interventions.

While the goal for many may be abstinence, the program uses a harm reduction approach. This means reducing the amount of use, the frequency of use, using substances that are less harmful, and reducing the harm that results from the use are all signs of progress.

The program treats each member with respect and expects respectful behavior is given in return.

Honesty is necessary to do well in the program. A useful quote: "Lying in the program is like lying on an eye test" - it only means you won't get the help you may need.
